Lille star and former Manchester United player tells Erik ten Hag what to expect from Leny Yoro

Incoming Manchester United signing Leny Yoro has already been given an ringing endorsement by Lille teammate and former Red Devil Angel Gomes.

Yoro is set to sign for United very soon after they agreed a deal with Lille worth an initial £42million, which could rise to £52m after add-ons.

Though paying such a fee for a teenager with just one proper season of first-team football has raised eyebrows, some believe the transfer could be a real coup for United.

The 18-year-old’s efforts saw him named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year and Erik ten Hag’s side have beaten Real Madrid and PSG to the centre-back’s signature.

And if Gomes’ word is anything to go buy, Yoro will be a brilliant player at Old Trafford for many years to come.

The Englishman has played 51 games alongside the Frenchman over the past two season at Lille and previously told Eurosport: ‘Leny, from when he first came [into the team], I knew immediately that he was going to go to the top.’

‘When I was at Manchester United as a 16-year-old, I understood what it was like to be around first-team players. But [Yoro] has a different type of temperament.

‘His temperament isn’t normal or the same as a 16-year-old or 17-year-old coming in.

‘It’s almost like he’s a senior pro, the way he trained and the way he conducted himself and everything. It was easy to see how things could only progress for him.’

Gomes came through United’s academy but would make just 10 senior appearances before departing for Lille in 2020 where he’s gone from strength to strength, recording the joint-most assists in Ligue 1 last season.

Yoro meanwhile will become the Red Devils’ second signing of the summer after forward Joshua Zirkzee, but the club will look to buy another centre-back before the window closes.

Two bids for Jarrad Branthwaite have been rejected by Everton who are holding out for £70m, which means a deal for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt seems more likely.
