In collaboration with CPS, RCMP officers from Airdrie, Didsbury, Olds and Sundre set up a tire-deflation device.
Police were successful in disabling the car on Highway 2 near Highway 581 — an approximately 40-minute drive north of Calgary.
Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and police after authorities set up a traffic stop, RCMP said. The suspect eventually surrendered to police after authorities made verbal contact with the person and de-escalated the situation, with the suspect and officers leaving the situation with no injuries.
CPS said one of its officers was the one who discharged their firearm.
As a result of an investigation by the Southern Alberta District General Investigation Section and CPS, charges have been pursued.
Stefan Service, 34, has been charged with multiple counts of mischief under $5000, flight from a police officer and peace officer, several firearm and weapon offences, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, failure to comply and dangerous operation of a conveyance.
Service has been remanded into custody and is due to appear in court on July 17.
The investigation continues and further charges may be pursued.
