Fast food fans in the UK are spoiled for choice of late, with more and more popular chains from the US launching here.
We recently heard how Dave’s Hot Chicken is setting up shop with 60 locations across the UK, starting in 2025, and Carl’s Jr also revealed plans to open here too.
But one that’s already become a hit with Brits is Popeyes, a Louisiana chicken chain which broke the internet in 2019 when its released its iconic Chicken Sandwich.
People went absolutely wild over the burger, so much so that just two weeks after its launch the ‘sensational’ item sold out across America.
That very same sandwich has been available in the UK since the chain opened its first restaurant here in 2021, but it’s had a few different variations.
As well as a spicy version of the classic, and a Buffalo Ranch option, there’s also been a BBQ one which was released in 2023 and instantly became a fan-favourite.
The Louisiana BBQ Chicken Sandwich was only available for a limited time, but proved a big success, selling almost 10,000 sandwiches in its first week.
Those who didn’t manage to try one are in luck though, as the cult menu item is returning for a short time from July 16, costing £6.99.
The burger provides a ‘sweet and smoky’ twist on the regular sandwich, and is made with a Shatter Crunch fried chicken breast, tasty BBQ sauce, smoked cheese, pickles, more BBQ sauce, and mayo, all packed inside a brioche bun.
Those who love the flavour can also get their hands on Louisiana BBQ Saucin’ Wings from £5.75. The snack is described as being drizzled in a Popeyes house-developed sauce with a ‘slight Southern twang’.
Dave Hoskins, head of food at Popeyes, said: ‘When we launched our Louisiana BBQ Wrap last year, Popeyes fans went mad for it. Since then, our Bold BBQ flavour has consistently ranked in our top five best-selling sauces — and hundreds of fans can’t resist adding it to their order each week.
‘We are thrilled to bring back Louisiana BBQ to our menu once again, with the return of our signature BBQ sandwich and a brand new Saucin’ wings. After working through twenty different versions of the sauce, we’ve perfected a recipe that truly captures the essence of Louisiana cuisine, inspired by the sweet and smoky flavours of New Orleans.’
If this weren’t enough, the chain also recently launched a new box meal deal, which gets customers more food for their money.
The brand new boxes allows you to get a combo of your favourite items, with four different options available starting from £9.99. This includes a Chicken Sandwich Box Meal, a Deluxe Chicken Sandwich Box Meal, Signature Louisiana Chicken Box Meal, and Louisiana BBQ Sandwich Box Meal.
With every Box Meal, you can select an iconic Popeyes Sandwich, including the latest Louisiana BBQ Sandwich, and pair it with a side of two Chicken Tenders or three Hot Wings. Or forgo the Sandwich and opt for a combo of three Chicken Tenders and three Hot Wings with the Signature Louisiana Chicken Box Meal.
Each meal comes with regular fries and a regular drink — meaning a saving of over £7 when you order your favourite items as a Box Meal. Popeyes fans can also spice up their order with Cajun Fries instead of regular for only £1.
This comes as another iconic US fast food chain, Taco Bell, recently made some major changes to its menu in the UK.
The Mexican-inspired quick service brand, known for its tacos, added a limited-edition burrito for summer, which they say has ‘exciting new flavour’ and is a ‘refreshing lighter option’.
Customers can now order a Chipotle Grilled Chicken Burrito, which is made with grilled chicken, crushed nacho chips, guacamole, Cali ranch sauce, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, a three-cheese blend, and creamy Chipotle sauce, all wrapped in a grilled flour tortilla.
Prices start from £5.19 for the burrito on its own, whereas a regular meal will set you back £6.99 (with fries or nachos and a soft drink), or its £9.99 for a deluxe box which also includes a crunchy taco, fries or nachos, churros and caramel dip, plus a regular soft drink.
Also new on the menu is the Veggie deluxe box, which is a permanent new addition and features the chain’s most popular vegetarian item — the 7-Layer Burrito.
The epic wrap features black beans, seasoned rice, guacamole, shredded lettuce, three cheese blend, diced tomatoes, and sour cream.
Priced at £9.99 the box also includes the burrito, Cheesy Black Bean Craving Burrito, churros with dip, a regular drink, plus fries or nachos.
