Brandon Aiyuk requests trade from 49ers after contract roadblock

Brandon Aiyuk wants out of the Bay Area.

The receiver has asked the 49ers for a trade, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday.

Aiyuk wants a long-term deal but there has been no movement with the franchise.

“Despite a recent meeting, the Niners haven’t been willing to engage in negotiations since May so Aiyuk has respectfully asked out,” Garafolo wrote on X.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that teams reaching out to the 49ers have been told they do not intend on trading Aiyuk.

Aiyuk was selected 25th overall by San Francisco in the 2020 NFL Draft, and is entering his fifth season with the team.

Last year, Aiyuk caught 75 balls for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.

It remains to be seen whether the team will acquiesce with the trade request or play hardball and force Aiyuk to play out his deal this season.

The Niners are facing some money constraints, as they have inked star pass rusher Nick Bosa to a five-year, $170 million deal, restructured running back Christian McCaffrey’s four-year, $64 million contract to give him a raise and they have a $28 million cap hit with wideout Deebo Samuel this season.

There could be more obligations to come.

Samuel, tight end George Kittle and quarterback Brock Purdy are all slated to be free agents after the 2025 season.
