Nikki Haley to speak at Republican National Convention in wake of Trump assassination attempt

Former GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Haley will speak at the Republican National Convention this week as the party seeks to showcase unity, The Post has learned.

Her allies previously indicated she had not been invited to speak at the convention in Milwaukee, Wisc. Despite that, Haley, 52, released all 97 delegates she amassed during the 2024 GOP campaign.

“The nominating convention is a time for Republican unity,” Haley said in a statement at the time. “Joe Biden is not competent to serve a second term, and Kamala Harris would be a disaster for America.”

“We need a president who will hold our enemies to account, secure our border, cut our debt, and get our economy back on track. I encourage my delegates to support Donald Trump next week in Milwaukee,” she added.

Having been the runner-up in the 2024 GOP presidential campaign, the specter of her absence suggested that bitterness from the Trump world still remained.

Haley – who was the last Trump challenger to drop out of the race – had been the most moderate candidate, attracting those who did not want Trump re-elected.

Trump, 78, had publicly seethed at Haley for remaining in the race for weeks after it became clear she lacked a pathway to the nomination.

But by Saturday, just ahead of the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in Butler Pa., it was revealed that she had been invited. The exact timeframe of when the invitation came is unclear.

Haley, who served in Trump’s first administration as US ambassador to the United Nations, accepted the invite and deliver remarks at the marquee Republican gathering was publicly revealed in the aftermath of that failed assassination bid.
