Attempted murder charge laid in ‘domestic-related’ Calgary condo stabbing

Calgary police said anyone experiencing abuse or violence in an intimate or family relationship can seek help from any of several city agencies by calling 211

A 30-year-old Calgary man is facing an attempted murder charge after a woman was repeatedly stabbed in a Quarry Park apartment Friday night.

Calgary police said the woman, who was assisted by neighbours after fleeing her unit in the Quarry Way S.E. building, was transported to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

Geoffrey Stoochnoff is charged with attempted murder and seven counts of failing to comply with conditions of a release order, including having no contact with the victim, in what police are calling a “domestic-related stabbing.”

Stoochnoff was tracked to the Traveller’s Inn on 16th Avenue N.W. after leaving the apartment area in his vehicle two hours earlier, police said in a release.

The CPS tactical unit, acting on a warrant after the suspect, entered the rented room and arrested Stoochnoff around 1:35 a.m. Saturday after he refused to come out voluntarily.

Stoochnoff was transported to hospital for precautionary measures and later charged, police said.

He remains in custody and is to appear in court Thursday.

Calgary police said anyone experiencing abuse or violence in an intimate or family relationship can seek help from any of several city agencies by calling 211.
