A man in the US is accused of decapitating his parents and their pet dog, before fleeing covered in blood in a stolen golf cart.

Police were called to a ‘domestic incident’ at a mobile home community in San Juan Capistrono, Southern California at 7.30am on Tuesday.

On arrival they found a ‘horrific scene’, with Antoinette Gerdvil, 79, her husband Ronald Gerdvil, 77, and their dog, all dead and decapitated, reports local news station KTLA 5.

Minutes after the discovery, officers received reports of a ‘bloody man’ chasing a maintenance worker on the mobile home site.

The suspect, the couple’s son, Joseph Gerdvil, is believed to have stolen the maintenance worker’s cart before fleeing the scene.

The 41-year-old, who lived with his parents, was found soon after near a bike trail exit, where police shot him.

In a statement, The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said he was detained at the scene until paramedics arrived to take him to a local hospital.

One neighbor, David Desmond said he saw Joseph fighting with his father the day before the murder.

Another resident, Bob Demario, also claimed Joseph ‘had a drug issue.’

Neighbour Victoria Alford said the elderly pair were a ‘very sweet couple’, adding: ‘And at that age to tragically be murdered by your own son is just tragic, period.’
