Alcohol believed to be a factor in Okotoks head-on collision

Pick-up truck driver fled scene after being rescued from burning vehicle

RCMP believe alcohol was a factor in a head-on collision in Okotoks that sent two to hospital.

Around 3:45 a.m. on Friday, Okotoks RCMP and emergency crews responded to a head-on collision between a delivery truck and a half-ton pick-up truck and on Highway 7 between Southridge Drive and 32 Street in Okotoks.

Civilians pulled a 27-year-old man out of the pick-up truck as it became engulfed in flames. Once the driver was rescued, he fled the scene on foot. A civilian chased him while calling 911.

RCMP located him quickly near 32 Street.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other vehicle occupants.

Traffic was diverted for several hours while emergency crews worked, but has since been cleared with traffic flowing normally.

Police continue to investigate the incident as it is believed alcohol was a factor.
