Bonnie Tyler has promised her fans she’s not going to retire, despite having already been in the industry for more than five decades.
The 73-year-old Welsh artist, celebrated for chart-topping tracks like Total Eclipse of the Heart and Lost In France, recently confirmed her ongoing passion for performing during her headline show at The Brit Fest.
Speaking to the crowd about having to take time off from performing during the COVID-19 pandemic she said: ‘It was like being retired – but I know I’m not going to retire.’
Before playing her next song, she said: ‘I love it. I do it because I love it.’
Tyler’s set at The Brit Fest was a nostalgic journey through her extensive catalog. She opened with Notes From America, followed by spirited covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Have You Ever Seen The Rain? and KISS’s Hide Your Heart.
Fans were particularly moved by her performance of Lost In France, a song that marked the beginning of her illustrious career.
The concert featured other beloved tracks, including It’s A Heartache, Total Eclipse of the Heart, and Faster Than the Speed of Night.
Tyler also paid tribute to the late Tina Turner, who passed away in May last year at the age of 83.
‘I always thought she was invincible,’ Tyler admitted, sharing a personal memory of singing Turner’s songs with a hairbrush as a teenager.
She honored Turner with a rendition of The Best, a song Tyler originally released in 1988, a year before Turner’s version became a global hit.
She added: ‘When she passed away I was devastated.’
As the concert drew to a close, Tyler prepared to perform Turtle Blues for the encore, only to find they had time for one final song.
‘That went fast,’ she remarked before delivering an electrifying rendition of Holding Out For A Hero.
The Brit Fest, which also featured performances from Kim Wilde, Scouting For Girls, The Lottery Winners, Fleur East, and Heather Small, has already announced its return for a second year on July 4, 5, and 6, 2025.
