In the wake of media personalities making their way into US politics, one of the most famous streamers on the planet is eyeing up the presidency.

MrBeast has become one of the most famous streamers on Earth, with views in the millions for all his videos, and it seems like he wants to translate his popularity into a political career.

In a post on Twitter, the streamer, real name Jimmy Donaldson, expressed how he’d like to run for president – if the rules somehow change around the age requirements.

‘If we lower the age to run for president I’ll jump in the race,’ MrBeast wrote.

When a fan asked if he’d still make YouTube videos if he were president, he added: ‘I’d probably focus on running the largest economy on Earth.’

There are three core requirements to run for president in the US. You have to be a ‘natural-born citizen’ (someone who was born to American parents), a resident in the US for at least 14 years, and be at least 35 years-old, as outlined in the US Constitution.

At the time of writing, MrBeast is 26 years-old, so there’ll be nothing to stop him by the year 2033.

While this tweet might seem like a light-hearted musing, MrBeast has spoken about running for president before. Back in 2022 (via Business Insider), the streamer said he would ‘probably’ run for president in his mid-40s.

At the time, during a podcast appearance, he said his campaign plan would be to give away money to prove to voters that he ‘can’t be bought’.

‘If I had literally zero dollars in my bank account and I was like ‘vote for me,’ I feel like that’s a pretty good campaign thing, like, you’re voting for me,’ he said.

‘I think I could make it interesting enough where I could win,’ he added. ‘I know how to get people’s attention.’

The idea of a YouTube personality running to become US president doesn’t seem too absurd when you consider the history behind past elected candidates, namely actor Ronald Reagan and media personality Donald Trump. Both of these, however, had some form of political career before running for office.

Previously, MrBeast has been careful to describe himself as ‘apolitical’, so as to not put off any viewers. As such there’s no indication of whether he leans Republican or Democrat – or if he’d try to run as an independent.
