Man throwing candy in northern Alberta Canada Day parade dies after fall

A 45-year-old man who had been throwing candy along the parade route of a Canada Day parade in the hamlet of La Crete, Alta., on Monday died after falling off a piece of equipment, say RCMP.

Fort Vermilion RCMP were called in to help emergency crews around 11:45 a.m. after the man fell while throwing candy to the crowd near 100 Avenue and 102 Street in the hamlet, police said in a Monday night news release.

The man from Mackenzie County died as a result of his injuries, police said.

La Crete is about 670 km north of Edmonton.
