Rangers signing Sam Carrick in NHL free agency

The Rangers have padded their center depth for the foreseeable future.

Sam Carrick, a veteran center coming off a Stanley Cup Final loss with the Oilers, is expected to sign a three-year deal with an average annual value of $1 million with the Blueshirts on the first day of free agency on Monday, according to a source.

The 32-year-old Carrick totalled 10 goals last season with both the Ducks and Oilers, combining for six assists as well for 16 points in 77 regular-season games.

He then chipped in one assist in his first 10 NHL postseason games with Edmonton.

Projected to compete for the fourth-line center job vacated by Barclay Goodrow, whom the Rangers put on waivers and was subsequently claimed by San Jose, Carrick is also at over 50 percent in the faceoff circle for his career.
