Plateau-Mont-Royal apartment building targeted by arson

No one was injured in the fire. Montreal police are investigating after an incendiary object was found inside.

A Plateau-Mont-Royal apartment building was evacuated overnight Sunday to Monday when a fire believed to have been criminal in origin started there. No one was injured.

Shortly after midnight, Montreal police were called to assist firefighters battling flames in a residential building on St-Joseph Blvd. near Parthenais St. After the fire was brought under control, firefighters discovered an incendiary object inside the building and the investigation was transferred to the Montreal police department’s arson squad.

“Damage to the building is significant. A few residents were evacuated from their home sand no one was injured,” said Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils on Monday morning. “No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is under way.”

A security perimeter set up around the building has been lifted; police investigators were to be at the scene Monday to try to learn more about what happened.
