Emerald Lake Lodge employee dies over weekend; cause unclear

An employee at a popular Rocky Mountain lodge passed away Sunday morning.

The employee at Emerald Lake Lodge in Field, B.C. died Sunday, the lodge said in a release, and there are no details yet regarding the cause of death.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic passing of an employee,” says Andre Lowenberg, lodge manager for Emerald Lake Lodge. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased, as well as our current employees, during this difficult time.”

The lodge’s parent company, Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts, is working with RCMP, the park warden, emergency services, staff, department heads and human resources to gather more information, CRMR wrote. It’s working to gather details about the situation and will provide more updates as it becomes available or is deemed necessary, it said.

The deceased employee’s family has been contacted, CRMR said, and the person’s identity is not being released.

The company said operations won’t be impacted, and asked guests to minimize questions to staff “who have just lost a colleague and most importantly a friend.”

Alberta RCMP did not have further information on the employee’s death on Monday morning.
