As free agency looms, Flames’ Oliver Kylington remains unsigned

It’s certainly possible that Kylington could gauge the market and circle back

On the eve of unrestricted free agency, Oliver Kylington has yet to sign an extension at the Saddledome.

As of 10 a.m. MT on Monday, the 27-year-old blue-liner will be eligible to field offers from around the league.

Until recently, it seemed like a sure thing that the smooth-skating Swede would be sticking around Calgary. After trading away Noah Hanifin, Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov, the Flames were counting on Kylington to fill a Top-4 role, and he had repeatedly expressed his desire to sign an extension with the club that drafted him in 2015.

The two sides have been negotiating, but there’s been no word of a done deal.

It’s certainly possible that Kylington, who collected an annual cap hit of US$2.5 million on his last contract, could gauge the market and circle back. Perhaps the Flames, in the final hours before the frenzy, will sweeten their latest proposal.

The Flames have also been linked to wingers Jake DeBrusk and Anthony Duclair.

“Like I’ve said, you won’t be seeing us doing the seven-year deals,” Conroy reiterated in Saturday’s interview on Sportsnet 960 The Fan. “But we think we’re going to be able to add a few real good players to help this group moving forward.”
