Rain should help put a damper on forest fires raging on Quebec’s North Shore

Three wildfires are still considered out of control, but winds are pushing the fires away from communities.

Five to 10 millimetres of rain are expected Wednesday on Quebec’s North Shore, which should give a boost to firefighting teams who are still battling wildfires raging near Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles.

However, there is a risk of thunderstorms during the afternoon.

Three forest fires are still considered out of control on the North Shore, which means they are progressing. Winds are pushing the fires north, away from communities.

Around 200 firefighters are mobilized in the North Shore. Three other sections of forest firefighters and auxiliary fighters will be added to the workforce Thursday, in addition to around 10 specialized resources.

The rain expected in the region on Wednesday should also have a positive impact on air quality for the next 24 hours.
