Glastonbury 2024 is officially OPEN!

The gates are open! 8am marks the official beginning of Glastonbury 2024 and it looks like the queues are already rather large.

Fans are always keen to find good camping spots so will often travel the night before just in case.

Looks like that Glastonbury magic is already bringing people together though as X user The Glasto Thingy tweeted: ‘Good morning from the back of the queue for Gate A!’

Their picture was matched by a fellow queuer Ian Luxon who wrote back: ‘Good morning from the front row of the queue for Gate A.’

Someone even ordered a Domino’s pizza to one gate last night – what a way to start the festival.

Traffic warnings as Glastonbury opens its gates

It’s the first day of Glastonbury 2024 and it’s time for 210,000 people to head to Worthy Farm.

However, Wednesday morning is expected to be traffic heavy with the gates opening at 8am and people trying to find a good camping spot.

While there are currently no reports of traffic jams, that’s likely to change over the morning.

The main motorway route for festival traffic is the M5, with drivers advised to exit at junction 23 and take the A39 and A361 to the farm.

RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson said: ‘Traffic jams are enough to drive people “totally crazy” at the best of times but can be even more frustrating if you’ve already been travelling for hours with a carful of tents and camping equipment. While it will be extremely difficult to avoid heavy traffic on the final roads leading to Glastonbury, you can take several steps to make the experience more bearable.’

She advises following the signs rather than your sat-nav when navigating the roads around Glasto, and knowing which car park you’re meant to be heading for.

‘You don’t want to end up at the wrong entrance and then struggle to reach the other side of the site – this creates more delays for everyone and is a sure-fire way of arriving at anything but the “Speed of Sound”,’ Alice added.
