Volkswagen updates Jetta for 2025, GLI keeps stickshift

Styling tweaks, revised cabin headline the changes; sedan to arrive in back half of 2024, with Canadian pricing in August

  • Fresh styling and interior details are on tap for the 2025 VW Jetta this year
  • And good news! The sporty GLI can still be ordered with a manual transmission
  • Deliveries should start third-quarter 2024, with Canadian pricing revealed August

Eagle eyes will spot this revised exterior by way of new grille designs and fresh LED headlamps, plus the option of an available light bar available on trims starting with a Comfortline shod with the Sport package. The 2025 also gets a trunk lid with new lighting that connects the taillights in a very heckblende fashion. Different wheel designs are in the hopper, along with a couple of new paint colours, such as a dandy Monterey Blue Pearl.

A new dash design greets passengers inside the 2025 Jetta, with a three-bar design flowing across the upper area and integrating well with the air vents. A touchscreen infotainment tablet is now standard across all trims, along with the so-called Climatronic Touch automatic ventilation controls. We look forward to trying those in person to learn if they work well without taking one’s eyes off the road.

Seat upholstery gets some new designs, as do the trim options, ranging from black cloth seats and brushed silver décor in the Trendline; all the way up to new perforated Vienna leather with red contrast stitching and a matte décor in the GLI.

Speaking of that performance-oriented trim, the GLI continues into 2025 with a 2.0L engine making 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, all of which can be paired with either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; or, we are elated to report, a six-speed manual gearbox. Pedestrian variants get the turbocharged 1.5L mill good for 158 ponies; this one will be matched only with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The gregarious rep at VW Canada has told this outlet that pricing for Canadian variants of the 2025 Jetta and Jetta GLI will be announced in late August, though it should be noted Americans are boasting the 2025 will have a lower starting MSRP than the 2024 automatic, set at US$21,995. At present, the Canadian equivalent (an automatic-equipped Trendline) is priced at CDN$24,995 plus fees.
