Teen pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by vehicle on Stoney Trail

The incident occurred after police were notified of two males who were walking into traffic on Stoney Trail allegedly trying to stop vehicles

A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after allegedly walking into traffic and being struck by a car on Stoney Trail in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Calgary police were initially notified early Tuesday that two males were walking into traffic allegedly trying to stop vehicles, CPS said in a statement.

Later, at about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, police were called for reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on southbound Stoney Trail north of McKnight Trail N.E. At that time, a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old male travelling in the far-right lane of southbound Stoney Trail struck the man who had stepped into the path of the car. The driver of the vehicle, a 2010 Cadillac CTS4, came to a stop and remained at the scene. He was not injured in the incident.

The 19-year-old male was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.

The second pedestrian, a 13-year-old boy, was not injured in the incident.

Police say speed, alcohol and drugs aren’t considered as factors in the collision for neither the driver nor the pedestrians.
