Stanley Cup champion Ryan O’Rielly lists Lake Huron mansion for $7.9M

‘Takes your breath away’: If you’re looking for real estate on Lake Huron, you’ll have to dip deep into your wallet to score an NHL star’s property

If you’re looking for real estate on Lake Huron, you’ll have to dip deep into your wallet to score an NHL star’s beachside property.

A 13-acre Goderich-area estate owned by Stanley Cup champion Ryan O’Rielly, now with the Nashville Predators, is on the market for $7.9 million, a figure that broker Greg Dodds says makes it stand alone in the region.

Located just south of Goderich, the sprawling property is not far from where O’Reilly grew up in Huron County.

Dodds said Huron County’s housing market was “moving along pretty good” but a quick sale may not be possible on this mega-home. “The higher price points are definitely taking longer to sell.”

The price of O’Reilly’s home marks “unchartered territory” locally and it’s generating interest “above what we were expecting” from buyers, Dodds said.

According to the listing, the three-story, six-bedroom and six-bathroom lakeside mansion features “meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail” that “converge to create an unparalleled retreat,” including an entertainment room, a rooftop patio overlooking the water and private beach access among other luxuries.

And if you couldn’t guess an athlete owned the property, the home sports an indoor hockey shooting room, two golf greens, a full commercial-sized fitness room and outdoor volleyball courts.

“The gym . . . is second to none,” Dodds said. “I always tell people I think it’s better than any commercial gym within an hour radius of Goderich.”

Along with the cost of the listing, buyers will also have to consider the estate’s property taxes, which will run the owner more than $36,000 annually.

According to the website Capfriendly.com, O’Reilly, 33, has earned US$76.7 million in his NHL career. He has two years remaining on a four-year contract he signed with the Nashville Predators, which pays an annual average salary of US$4.5 million.

O’Reilly played OHL hockey with Erie. His NHL career began when he was selected 33rd overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2009 draft, playing with the team until he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for the 2015-2016 season.

He would later win a Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 and was named playoff MVP. He played briefly for the Toronto Maple Leafs late in the 2023 season before signing with Nashville.
