Ride-share vehicle stolen at knifepoint on weekend in Saskatoon

A 20-year-old man faces several charges after police and RCMP collaborated to stop a stolen ride-share vehicle on Saturday night.

Around 10 p.m. on Saturday night, officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft in progress in the 10 block of 24th Street East, city police said in a media release on Monday.

“The call stated a male stole a ride-share driver’s vehicle at knifepoint.”

The suspect fled before officers arrived.

A short time later, RCMP reported receiving a complaint of a speeding vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle, near Rosthern.

The city police air support team started monitoring the vehicle and directed RCMP and the city police K9 team to its location. Officers were then able to use a tire deflation device to stop the vehicle, the release reported.

The suspect fled on foot and was soon arrested.
