A Chicago woman has been missing since last week when she vanished during a yoga retreat in the Bahamas, authorities said.
Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen on Wednesday around Paradise Island, which is near the crime-ridden city of Nassau, according to a missing person bulletin by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Casey traveled to the Caribbean country for a yoga certification retreat, but she missed class on Wednesday.
The yoga retreat center notified her family the next day, according to a friend’s social media post that was shared on a Facebook page dedicated to finding Casey.
“Taylor is such a sweet person who cares so deeply about community,” the friend wrote.
Casey’s family is expected to travel to the Bahamas this week to assist in the search, according to the Facebook group.
The American tourist’s disappearance comes as the US State Department warned travelers earlier this year to exercise increased caution in the Bahamas, including in Nassau, because of crime.
“Violent crime, such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults, occur in both tourist and non-tourist areas,” according to the State Department.
More information about Casey’s case was not immediately available.
