Cameron Brink’s Sparks teammate Dearica Hamby is her US 3×3 Olympic team replacement

Team USA’s 3×3 women’s basketball team has named a replacement after Cameron Brink’s ACL injury.

The team revealed Monday that Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby took her teammate Brink’s spot on the 2024 Olympic squad.

The 6-foot-3 Hamby was the MVP of Team USA’s 2023 3×3 AmeriCup win but was not part of its 2021 Olympic contingent.

The 30-year-old is averaging 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while starting all 17 games for Los Angeles.

Hamby is a two-time All-Star, two-time WNBA’s Sixth Women of the Year and won the 2022 title with the Las Vegas Aces.

The rookie Brink was originally selected to participate in Team USA’s 3×3 roster but tore her ACL on June 18.

The Stanford product averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.1 steals per game in her first 15 WNBA contests.

Even without Brink, Team USA should remain stout defensively — with Hamby averaging 1.5 steals per game — and may actually see an offensive uptick, with Hamby making 50.9 percent of shots from the field and a whopping 40 percent from 3-point range this year.

Team USA’s other participants in Paris include 30-year-old Cierra Burdick — who last played for the Seattle Storm in 2021 — Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard and TCU guard Hailey Van Lith.

However, another injury may require further alternates.

Howard suffered a left ankle injury on June 19 and is out for an “indefinite” amount of time, possibly jeopardizing her availability.

Buoyed by Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Allisha Gray and Stefanie Dolson, Team USA’s 3×3 team took home gold in Tokyo in 2021, the first year the event at the Olympics.

Olympic competition for Team USA is set to begin against Germany on July 30 in Paris with the start of pool play.
