A star tipped to be appearing on Strictly Come Dancing 2024 has revealed that he could be in ‘real trouble’ if he comments on the rumours.
There may be several months to go until the BBC series returns, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating over who could be in this year’s cast.
Names that have cropped up have included Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, The Traitors’ Mollie Pearce and comedian Chris McCausland, as well as Dave Fishwick, the inspiration behind the 2023 feel-good film Bank of Dave.
On Sunday June 23, Dave appeared on BBC Breakfast to talk about the upcoming stage production of his story, where he’ll be depicted by Jason Manford to tell the tale of how he set up the independent lending company Burnley Savings and Loans.
During the interview, the BBC’s Roger Johnson brought up the prospect of him joining the Strictly line-up, after his name was floated about the rumour mill.

‘You said in the middle of one of your answers “you can’t dance”,’ the presenter said, as Dave responded: ‘No I can’t.’
‘Strictly?’ Roger asked, as the guest let out a huge gasp.
The co-host continued: ‘It’s been rumoured, it’s been talked about a lot.’
Dave then finally replied: ‘I can’t possibly comment. I’d be in real trouble. No, I can’t comment on that at all.’
Rachel Burden then quipped that he was sounding like a ‘politician’ with his coy answer.
‘Listen, I’d be in so much trouble then,’ Dave stated. ‘I really would.’
He then added: ‘There’s rumours. There’s definitely rumours. Big ones, yeah.’
We’ll just have to see if this answer convinces people that Dave is – or isn’t – doing Strictly this year!
A source previously claimed that Strictly thought Dave’s ‘inspiring backstory’ could make him popular among the show’s audience.
‘Dave is a real community hero and the best of British,’ they told The Sun.
‘Strictly think his inspiring backstory will win him new fans and shine a spotlight on the amazing work he has done for people and business in Lancashire.’
The insider continued: ‘Dave has told his friends he has accepted and cannot wait to get started.
‘For Dave it’s a dream come true. He is a working-class man who did well for himself and decided to use his success to help others.’
