Si King has revealed he has no desire to revive The Hairy Bikersfollowing the death of co-star Dave Myers.
Between 2004 and 2024, the pair hosted over 30 TV series’ and specials together, which combined cooking with motorcycling travelogues.
However , two years after being diagnosed with cancer, Myers died aged 66 in February.
Now, a few months on, his former co-star has said he has no intention on working on the project again without his close friend.
‘There is no Hairy Bikers without Dave (Myers),’ he has said.
‘That’s not going to happen. It wouldn’t be respectful.’
In an interview with The Guardian, the 57-year-old said he was currently experiencing ‘a time of change’, with the cost being his ‘best friend’.
Reflecting on their long working relationship, Si said they were a ‘double act’ and there was ‘no Hairy Bikers without Dave…because it’s plural’.
Although Si said he wanted to work on more TV programmes and cookbooks, he shared hopes the Hairy Bikers fan base would support his endeavours.
‘It would be incredibly churlish not to say thank you to our fanbase. I sincerely hope that whatever I do next they come with me and we start another journey together,’ he added.
He also shared his devastation at the ‘cruel disease’ that ended Myers’ life ‘too soon’.
Earlier this month Si shared a poignant image of the pair on social media, showing him with Hairy Bikers beer which was being released in supermarkets three months after Myers’ death.
Sharing a photo of himself on Instagram enjoying their work in a garden while sitting on a wooden chair in front of a roaring fire, he wrote: ‘Thrilled to announce our delicious Hairy Biker Triple Hop beer that we lovingly made with @theakstonbrewery is coming to a shelf near you – first stop Waitrose!
‘Go grab a bottle, sit down, relax and enjoy! Si x,’ he signed off.
Directly next to Si was an empty chair, and an extra bottle of beer, which did not go unnoticed by fans, who thought it was metaphorically reserved for Myers.
‘I notice you have a beer for Dave too. Heart-wrenching and heartwarming simultaneously,’ wrote Donna.
‘The man is still by your side. always and forever. We all miss him Si. Can’t imagine how you feel xx,’ added account Hoof Antiques.
Fiona commented: ‘Very poignant photo Si 😢 I think we should all get one & raise a toast to Dave the legend.’ Many others echoed her sentiments and vowed to purchase a bottle in honour of Myers.
Singer Sonique Clarke shared: ‘He is sitting in the chair next to you.’
Kelly West said there was ‘something sad’ about the photo, and Scott agreed: ‘Possibly the saddest picture I’ve seen in years of you sat with a bottle & an empty chair.’
Jasmine Flower typed: ‘Ohh he is there with you always and waiting to start your journey together again in the sky!’
Si has spoken about missing his best friend but has put on a brave face during public appearances.
‘It’s really strange for us all not to have Dave around but for now, we will keep posting on the Hairy Bikers socials to keep in touch with all those people who have been so kind over many years and particularly in recent weeks,’ he wrote on X earlier this year.
