Teenager drowns in L’Assomption River in Joliette

The 16-year-old jumped in the river around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Police divers recovered his body that evening.

The body of a 16-year-old boy was recovered by Sûreté du Québec divers late Thursday from the L’Assomption River in Joliette.

According to information gathered by the SQ, the young man was seen jumping into the river around 2:30 p.m. near the CLSC de Joliette on De la Base-de-Roc Blvd.

A search conducted along the riverbanks that afternoon by the SQ and firefighters yielded nothing.

SQ divers finally recovered the teen’s body that evening.

Police are interviewing witnesses and the investigation into the death is continuing.
