Three separate incidents that all involved firearms and led to arrests kept police busy in Saskatoon on Thursday.

When they arrived, police saw a man and a woman being restrained on the ground outside a home. Police said that the pair had approached the home’s occupants in the front yard and threatened them with a firearm. After a struggle, the occupants were able to restrain the pair — who were not known to the occupants of the home — and the weapon was later confirmed to be an imitation handgun.

A 17-year-old man was charged with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for the purpose of an offence, and carrying a concealed weapon, while a 19-year-old woman was charged with assault.

Shortly before 9 p.m., police were called to the area of Broadway Avenue and 10th Street East after receiving a report of a man with a handgun. Officers found a 20-year-old man on the Broadway Bridge with an imitation handgun.

He was charged with carrying of a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon while prohibited.

In the third incident of the night, officers were conducting proactive enforcement in the area of 20th Street West and Avenue D South around 10:30 p.m. when they saw a 26-year-old man who was wanted on warrants.

When police arrested the man, they found a loaded sawed-off rifle and ammunition. He was charged with several firearms-related offences as well as the outstanding warrants.
