Ben Affleck calls Jennifer Lopez’s level of fame ‘f—in’ bananas’

‘There was a lady, she was smoking weed, in a full purple skintight suit — she’s a heavy lady — and she starts running backwards filming, going ‘J-LO!!’ Like a herald’

Affleck, 51, recalled an instance when he and Lopez ventured out into Times Square in New York City as they made their way to a Broadway show. As soon as they were out amongst the public, the couple, who were with their five children, were beset upon by fans.

“We get out with her, all the kids, through Times Square, and the s— was like f—in’ bananas,’“ he recalled. “I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ There was a lady, she was smoking weed, in a full purple skintight suit — she’s a heavy lady — and she starts running backwards filming, going ‘J-LO!!’ Like a herald. Then gets everyone else, they’re all tourists, whatever, just moving.”

Affleck said the exchange was overwhelming as they were surrounded by “screaming” people all around them.

“People are projecting something on to me that I don’t feel about myself at all,” he said of the attention.

Elsewhere in their conversation, Affleck addressed claims that he has a constant look of “resting bitch face.”

Affleck said he’s fine with being photographed at a movie premiere. ” I don’t give a f—. But when I’m with my children, that’s a different thing,” he said.

He also took issue with the perception that he’s a “frat guy.”

“For a long time people were like, ‘This guy’s a frat guy.’ I’ve never been in a fraternity one day in my life. Never once been inside a fraternity. Nothing against it. How can I be against it? I’ve never been there,” he said.

Lopez has said she isn’t a big travel person, but she fell in love with the country during several visits there.

Lopez had been planning a summer tour with dates all across North America, but she scrapped her upcoming shows “to be with her children, family and close friends.”

The couple have been living apart and have only been photographed a handful of times since March as questions have swirled over the status of their relationship.

One insider told PEOPLE in May that the two have buckled under the intense media scrutiny surrounding their high-profile marriage.

“They just have very different approaches when it comes to media attention. Ben hates all attention and it makes him very uncomfortable. Jennifer has always had a different approach,” the source said.

“Even though he admires that about her, it doesn’t make him happy and causes stress in his life and then in hers. There is no question their different styles clash,” they said.

A third confidante described Affleck as “more introspective and private” and said his personality “causes tension” between the two.

“She likes to open her heart to her fans and to the world. This makes them considerably different, and it has been difficult in the day-to-day relationship,” they added.

Another person close to the couple painted a much darker outlook for the twosome as they face speculation that their personal lives are in trouble.

But Lopez celebrated Affleck on Father’s Day last weekend, calling him a “hero.”

“Our hero. Happy Father’s Day,” Lopez wrote over a black-and-white photo of Affleck, including a white heart emoji.

The couple were also spotted wearing their wedding rings as they attended Affleck’s son’s graduation ceremony last week.
