Eagles trade up to draft Cooper DeJean — and Rich Eisen finds a way to shade Howie Roseman

The Eagles have a new cornerback in the fold.

On Day 2 of the NFL draft, the Eagles traded up to the No. 40 overall pick to select Iowa’s Cooper DeJean, and after the pick, NFL Network’s Rich Eisen seemed to take a shot at Eagles general manager Howie Roseman over the team’s secondary, where the team struggled in the latter half of their flop 2023 campaign.

“Howie Roseman, I guess, decided he needed a secondary,” Eisen said on the broadcast.

DeJean was the second cornerback taken in as many picks for Philly after the Eagles selected Quinyon Mitchell at No. 22 overall out of Toledo.

DeJean could potentially become the league’s first white cornerback to regularly start since former Giants standout Jason Sehorn retired after the 2003 season.

At his introductory interview session, DeJean was asked about being a white cornerback and whether or not that could prevent him from seeing the field.

“If they put me out there, I’ll be excited to play out there,” DeJean said.

DeJean, 21, was an early entrant into the draft after three seasons at Iowa.

He was named an All-American as a junior in 2023.

Overall, during his college career, he recorded seven interceptions.

The Eagles’ 2023 season ended embarrassingly in a loss to the Buccaneers in the wild-card round, falling 32-9.

The slide capped off what became a miserable season for the then-defending NFC Champions, who began the season 10-1, only to lose five of their last six games before the blowout defeat in the postseason.
