Police arrest suspect after man found dead in McKenzie Towne home

A man was killed on Monday in the southeast community of McKenzie Towne, Calgary police say.

The incident took place in a residence on the 300-block of Prestwick Terrace, sparking a police chase that ended in an arrest outside a nearby shopping plaza.

Police were alerted to the scene by two callers at 8:25 a.m., and found a man dead in the residence.

The suspect, who had fled before the police arrived, was found in a nearby shopping plaza outside a pancake house.

Dan Kutarna, a customer at the restaurant, spotted the man at the establishment, ordering a coffee, looking as if he had just “crawled out of bed.”

“I don’t know if he even got (the coffee),” Kutarna said.

The suspect then got up and moved to a different side of the plaza. A few minutes later, Kutarna said, the customers were asked to evacuate the building. Soon, he saw the suspect “bolting off to the side” with a string of officers after him.

“He seemed calm,” Kutarna said.
