Calgary Flames sign Martin Pospisil to two-year contract extension

Pospisil made his NHL debut for the Flames in early November

Martin Pospisil isn’t going anywhere.

The Slovak was selected in the fourth round, 105th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut for the Flames in early November, scoring in his first game. He has gone on to be a vital part of the team, playing on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Connor Zary while providing a physical, energetic presence.

“I think he’s a real player, for sure,” Kadri said last month. “Obviously, that skill set and the production is going to evolve over his career and once he starts to figure out that consistency aspect of the game, but Pospy’s always a guy who is willing to work, which is something I really appreciate.

“He’s great on the forecheck and he can be physical and can make plays when needed, too. His speed is another element that’ll keep him in the lineup.”

The 24-year-old has scored four goals and added seven assists to go along with 37 penalty minutes in 34 games. Among Flames regulars, he’s also leading the teams in hits per 60 minutes, with 15.61. His +10 rating on the season is fourth among all rookies in the league.
