Mauricio Pochettino is considering a big change to his Chelsea side after their dismal defeat against Wolves in a desperate bid to save his job.
The pressure continues to mount after Chelsea lost 4-2 against Wolves on Sunday, their first home defeat against the Midlands club since 1979.
Boos rung around the stadium at full-time, with scrutiny only increasing when the wife of Thiago Silva appeared to call for Pochettino to be sacked on social media following the result.
The result leaves Pochettino’s side languishing in 11th place and any hopes of a return to European football appear to have faded.
Chelsea do still have a Carabao Cup final on the horizon later in the month but the Argentine is said to be after an immediate change in fortunes and considering a formation switch to a three-man defence, according to the Evening Standard.
The Blues have typically lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation for the whole of the season but could switch to a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 to help provide more balance in midfield and allow Ben Chilwell a greater attacking license at wing-back.
It could also help provide greater support in central defence, a position where Chelsea have a plethora of options.
After the game, Pochettino suggested that changes would be afoot after the latest disappointing display.
‘We can’t give up and we are going to work hard to try and change, maybe take some decisions to find a different way,’ he said. ‘If it is not working this way, we need to move on and try to find a different type of solution.’
The 51-year-old also suggested he was not blameless for Chelsea’s tenth league defeat of the season but said the squad would work hard to find a solution.
‘At the moment this is the reality. Myself, also. I am responsible for this situation. What we are showing today is we are not good enough.
‘We didn’t manage the situation properly. Of course, no-one can be safe, no? I don’t want to come here and say I’m the best and the players are the worst.
‘At the moment, we are not matching the history of the club, that is true. We need to accept and be critical. We will not give up.’
