Jazz Chisholm in Yankees lineup vs. Red Sox as J.D. Davis gets DFA’d

BOSTON – Jazz Chisholm Jr. is jumping right into the fire.

Just about 24 hours after getting traded to the Yankees, Chisholm will bat fifth and play center field against the Red Sox on Sunday night at Fenway Park.

The Yankees designated J.D. Davis for assignment to make room for Chisholm on the active roster.

Chisholm landed in Boston on Sunday afternoon and was expected to arrive at Fenway roughly two hours before first pitch.

The Yankees landed Chisholm on Saturday in a deal with the Marlins, trading prospects Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez back to Miami.

“We’re excited to get a talent like his,” manager Aaron Boone said Saturday night. “We think his skillset will play at Yankee Stadium. He’s power, he’s got tremendous speed, he’s got position versatility. Obviously plays with a lot of energy and pizzazz. It’s a young, athletic player that has a couple years of control in there too. Excited to get him, excited to see him fit in. I know he’s really excited to get here.”

Chisholm, a left-handed batter, was hitting .249 with a .730 OPS, 22 steals and 13 home runs this season.
