A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after she was found unconscious on a rural track.

Anita Rose, 57, was found with a serious head injury near Rectory Lane, Brantham, Suffolk, shortly after 8am on Wednesday.

A 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being questioned, Suffolk Police has said.

It is not believed the man and Anita were known to each other.

According to detectives, Anita left her home around 5am to take her springer spaniel dog, named Bruce, for a walk.

She was found by a member of the public lying on a track road near the sewage works and railway line around 6.25am, and an ambulance was called.

Anita was then taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Police have released an image of Anita, taken on the morning of the incident from a doorbell camera, in an appeal to trace her mobile phone and a pink zip-up jacket.
