Sask. fire ban lifted thanks to spate of cooler weather, forecasted rainfall

Rainfall received overnight and forecasted in the next 36 hours across the northern provincial forest will bring down fire hazards in the area, the news release added.

Thanks to a recent spate of rainfall and cooler weather, Saskatchewan residents looking to enjoy the summer nights with a cozy bonfire and campfire marshmallows can do so once again.

A provincewide fire ban has been rescinded by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) as of Friday at noon, according to a government news release. The fire ban will be lifted on all Crown lands, provincial parks, provincial recreation sites located north of the provincial forest boundary, including the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District.

Rainfall received overnight and forecasted in the next 36 hours across the northern provincial forest will bring down fire hazards in the area, the news release noted.

While the provincial fire ban has been lifted, the public is reminded to heed any local fire bans and restrictions in place by municipalities, provincial parks and rural municipalities, said the release. Local conditions should also continue to be monitored and fire bans put back in place if and when necessary.

“After this weather system passes and hazards increase, the public is reminded to remain attentive to preventing new wildfires while enjoying our provincial forests,” stated SPSA vice-president of operations Steve Roberts in the release.
