This week, Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee in the 2024 presidential race, after President Biden dropped out Sunday and passed the torch.

As all eyes are on Harris, statements that various celebs such as Meghan Markle, 42, have made about her are back in the spotlight.

In August 2020, the Duchess of Sussex filmed a conversation about suffrage with Gloria Steinem.

“The heart of the Democratic party has been black women, actually, and now there is a potential vice president who is black and that’s exciting,” Steinem, 90, said at the time.

Markle replied saying, “I’m so excited to see that kind of representation. You know, for me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity.”

The Duchess of Sussex continued,  “As many of us believe, you can only be what you can see. And in the absence of that, how can you aspire to something greater than what you see in your own world?”

Markle ended by saying, “I think maybe now we’re starting to break through in a different way.”

For her part, Harris has posted on social media about Markle twice before.

In October 2019, Harris reshared a video on X of Markle in South Africa.

In the video, Markle talks about the negative press she got during her pregnancy.

“This is incredibly important. We must remember that it’s a sign of strength to show emotion,” Harris wrote at the time. “Meghan, we are with you.”

In the video, a visibly emotional Markle can be seen saying, “Look, I would say – any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable. So that was made really challenging. And then when you have a newborn, especially as a woman, it’s a lot,” said the mother of two.

Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their son, Prince Archie, 5, in 2019, and their daughter, Princess Lilibet, 3, in 2021.

“You add this on top of trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed – and also, thank you for asking,” Markle told the reporter in a now-famous comment.

“Because not many people have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

In June 2020, Harris also took to Twitter to post a clip from the virtual graduation address Markle gave, writing, ” ‘The only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.’ Thank you, Meghan, for this powerful statement.”

In the speech, Markle talked to Immaculate Heart High School, her alma mater, about the then-recent police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and the public reaction and protests in response

Markle noted in the speech that she was initially hesitant to comment on the topic, but, “I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that I wouldn’t, or that it would get picked apart, and I realized the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.”

Markle has not officially spoken out about Harris since she became the presumptive Democratic nominee this week.

But, Kinsey Schofield, host of the “To Di For” podcast about the royals, claimed on the podcast that Markle “wants an in” into US politics, and could endorse Harris soon.

On Wednesday, the royal expert told Sky News, “She’s always wanted to be on the playground known as Washington, DC.”
