5 things to do in Calgary this weekend: July 26 to 28

Calgary’s heat wave may finally come to an end this weekend, with temperatures expected to be below 30 C for the duration. From where to watch the Olympics to music festivals around the city, Calgary has a full schedule of activities.


Team Canada FanFest

Calgary is one of three cities hosting a team Canada fan festival. The free, family-friendly event will have team Canada competition viewings, athlete appearances, live music and sport demonstrations.

When: Friday: 12 to 8 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Calgary Folk Music Festival

The Calgary Folk Music Festival celebrates its 45th anniversary this weekend with a four-day lineup of artists from around the world. The festival unites creative folks from diverse backgrounds, genres and cultures, introducing audiences to a wide range of music styles and artistic disciplines

When: Thursday: from 4 p.m.; Friday: from 2 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday: from 9:30 a.m.

Beekeeping for beginners

Back by popular demand, The Confluence is hosting another beekeeping for beginners course. Taught by ABC Bees owner and operator Eliese Watson, this course teaches all the basics about bees. This two-hour outdoor workshop will go over setting up and caring for beehives. Ages 10 and older are welcome.

Inglewood Sunfest

This summer festival in the heart of Inglewood promises fun for everyone. There is set to be more than 200 vendors, plus a full day lineup of free entertainment, shopping, food trucks and patios. There will be a kids’ zone, as well as a family-friendly beer garden.

The July Market

The Barn Artisan Market presents the July market this weekend at the Shawnessy Barn. The market features two floors of local vendors with hand-crafted, made-in-Alberta products, food trucks and views of Shawnessy Park.
