Thieves ‘craving quail eggs and celeriac’ rob Waitrose home delivery van

Two crooks have been mocked for making off with crates of food from a W home delivery van.

Middle class shoppers may have been disappointed not to get their anticipated deliveries of tapenade and Chablis, after the opportunistic theft.

The the pair on hire bikes similar to those seen all around London spotted the unattended supermarket vehicle in the street.

They then dumped the green bicycles on the ground, and one clambered in before emerging with two heavy crates of the expensive food.

He slowly walked away on foot with his loot while the other thief, also clad all in black, shoved goods in his bag.

The theft happened yesterday at 10am in Bow Common, east London.

After video was shared online, the pair were mocked for their apparent craving for the finer things, wondering if they had been after tapenade, quail eggs, or other posh products like celeriac when they went for the famous green logo.

Waitrose was the most expensive supermarket in UK every single month in 2023, when a representative basket of 43 goods was considered by Which? magazine.

Perhaps the thieves would have done the same if they’d seen an Asda van – but perhaps they really, really craved Duchy Organic.

The Met Police and Waitrose have been approached for comment.
