Jake Paul defeats Mike Perry by TKO, Mike Tyson fight ‘absolutely happening’

TAMPA –– Jake Paul has the boxing world by the tail.

Paul (10-1) looked dominant against Mike Perry on Saturday night in front of a raucous sold-out crowd at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.

“The Problem Child” knocked Perry down in the first and second rounds before eventually settling for the kill shot in round six, a TKO victory for the improving boxing sensation.

Paul peppered Perry with a steady diet of lead-hand jabs that thwarted the forward pressure that Perry is usually known for.

When Perry was dropped in the sixth round, the referee quickly deemed the fight over, and the crowd went wild.

Paul out-landed Perry 98-33, 52 of which were jabs that looked particularly frustrating for him to beat.

“He’s tough as nails,” Paul said after the fight, referring to Perry’s toughness after he got dropped badly from a 1-2 combination. “Mike Tyson, you’re next.”

Perry was dejected after the loss in the post-fight press conference, telling reporters “he thought he would do better” in the fight.

“You were too fast for me, and I couldn’t adjust,” Perry said in the ring after the fight.

Perry continued by telling reporters that Paul got “much faster,” the two had previously had a sparring match.

Now the boxing world has turned its proverbial head to a massive fight with the 58-year-old Mike Tyson.

The fight is scheduled for Nov. 15 in AT&T Stadium in Dallas, which Paul said post-fight is “absolutely happening.”

As for Tyson, he is back training for his return to boxing, Paul said, which was initially postponed because of an ulcer flare-up while onboard a flight in late May.

While celebrating the victory, Paul also called out UFC light heavyweight champion and decorated kickboxer Alex Pereira.

Pereira had previously expressed some interest in the boxing world, with Paul being one of the sports biggest draws.

Most Valuable Promotions tells reporters that massive boxing events such as Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia did not sell out, but Paul’s drawing power grows by the day.
