Manchester United appear to have handed Jadon Sancho a lifeline after the forward held positive talks with Erik ten Hag and returned to pre-season training.

The 24-year-old was frozen out of United’s first-team squad following a public falling out with Ten Hag last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan with former club Borussia Dortmund.

The return to Germany appeared to reinvigorate Sancho and the England international shone in the Champions League as Dortmund made it all the way to the final, where they were ultimately beaten by Real Madrid.

Sancho’s future had been uncertain after his temporary spell in the Bundesliga came to an end earlier this summer and some reports indicated the winger sought a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford.

But Sancho was all smiles in pre-season training at Carrington today and Sky Sports claim both the forward and Ten Hag have reflected on their previous dispute and agreed to move on.

It’s understood the former Manchester City academy graduate will be available for United’s pre-season games, starting away to Rosenborg in Norway next week.

The Red Devils also take on Rangers, Arsenal, Real Betis and arch-rivals Liverpool before their Community Shield clash with City on August 10. Ten Hag’s men open their Premier League campaign versus Fulham at the Theatre of Dreams five days later.

Ten Hag had provided little indication that Sancho could be welcomed back at United but praised the attacker’s scintillating performance in Dortmund’s semi-final first leg win over Paris Saint-Germain in May.

‘So let’s say this – yesterday he played very good and he’s a very good player, the United head coach told reporters at the time.

‘Yesterday he showed why Manchester United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United, which is good.

‘I’m happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday, and we’ll see what is going to happen in the future.’
