Joanna Page reveals what she’s ruled out of Gavin and Stacey finale

Joanna Page has one request for James Corden and Ruth Jones ahead of the last ever Gavin and Stacey Christmas special – no bikinis.

After weeks of denials, Corden and Jones finally confirmed there will be one last trip to Barry for Gavin and Stacey fans, marking the end of the BBC comedy first released in 2007.

The script might finally be done and dusted but Page, who stars as Welsh hun Stacey, still has no idea what will happen in the final episode.

‘I just hope that I haven’t signed on to be running around on Barry beach in a bikini because I’m not doing that at 47,’ she told BBC Breakfast.

Gavin and Stacey’s 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched non-sporting event in a decade, attracting over 18million viewers.

Viewers were up in arms when the episode ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger which saw Nessa (Jones) get down on one knee and pop the question to Smithy (Corden).

Page said she was as stunned as fans were when the proposal unfolded.

‘I am the same as everyone else. I can’t wait to find out what has happened. I remember all those years ago reading the script for the last special, and I was doing it on my phone,’ she continued.

‘I got to the end, and it said, “Nessa goes down one knee”, and I remember scrolling through thinking, ”That can’t be the end”. I am the same as everybody, what happens?’

Rob Brydon, who stars as Stacey’s uncle Bryn, had his own request for the last episode too.

‘I hope we don’t find out about the fishing trip. That would be a mistake,’ he told Metro.co.uk.

The ‘fishing trip’ mystery has been a long-running gag throughout Gavin and Stacey after Bryn and his nephew (Robert Wilford) went fishing (obviously) where there was an incident which has left them unnerved ever since.

Whenever we come close to uncovering what happened on the trip though, the reveal gets thwarted.

‘They should keep the mystery,’ he explained. ‘You must never resolve that. That’s the thing. It is the not knowing.’
