Andrew Wiggins, Chris Paul will be ‘aggressively’ shopped in trade talks with Warriors nearing retool

The Warriors are potentially looking to turn over their roster after falling short of the playoffs in 2024.

Andrew Wiggins will be “aggressively dangled” in the trade market while the Warriors will also be looking to find a suitor for Chris Paul, The Ringer reported this week.

These two key pieces to the Warriors’ puzzle, along with Klay Thompson’s potential departure in free agency, spell a possible new era for Golden State.

The Warriors could have difficulty moving Paul and Wiggins thanks to the massive cap hits they are due in 2024-25.

Wiggins, in particular, might have one of the worst contracts in the NBA, as the 29-year-old is on the second year of a four-year contract worth $109 million.

The Canadian-born 2014 No. 1 overall draft pick has missed multiple games across two seasons with a “private matter” as ESPN reported in November that some in the organization were “annoyed” by his physical condition.

Wiggins averaged 13.2 points per game in 2023-24, the lowest of his career, and his field goal percentage (45.3 percent) was his worst since 2019.

He’s set to be paid a per-year average of $28.19 million through 2027, assuming he picks up his fully guaranteed player option after next season.

Paul’s contract this season is not guaranteed for the $30 million he’s set to make in 2024-25, as there’s a $5 million buyout clause that the Warriors can enact to avoid paying the massive contract.

The Warriors hope to replace that salary with a player who better fits their needs and timeline.

It would seem that Stephen Curry and Draymond Green could soon be the last men standing from the Warriors’ dynasty.
