Eva Mendes reveals Ryan Gosling is why she may never act again

Eva Mendes gave an update on her future in Hollywood.

After stepping away from acting 10 years ago to focus on raising her and Ryan Gosling’s two kids, the 50-year-old star appeared on “Good Morning America” Tuesday and was asked what it would take for her to return to the big screen.

“I don’t know. If there — you know — if there’s interesting roles,” she said while promoting her debut children’s book, “Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries.”

“I left at a time where it was also like… ten years ago, I kinda felt like I did it, ya know?” Mendes went on. “I just worked with Ryan Gosling, who’s, like, the best. And I had such a — I don’t know — it was such a high off my career to work with him and what we created together that I was like, ‘This is a good time to just Seinfeld it and just walk out.’ ”

“So, who knows?” she added.

Mendes is famous for her roles in the films “Training Day,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Hitch,” “We Own the Night,” “Ghost Rider” and more.

Her last acting role came in 2014 in “The Lost River,” which was written and directed by Gosling, 41.

Mendes and Gosling, who have never officially confirmed that they are married, have two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 10, and Amada Lee, 8.

Having children was what prompted Mendes to take a long break from acting.

She also pivoted to other career endeavors like serving as the creative director for CIRCA Beauty, a cosmetics brand sold at Walgreens.

In 2022, Mendes said on “The View” she had become fussier about acting roles.

“I have such a short list of what I will do. Like before kids, I kind of was up for anything — I mean, if it was a fun project,” she stated, adding that she will not take violent or highly sexualized roles.

The “Girl in Progress” star has also given credit to Gosling for allowing her to stay home with their kids while he keeps acting.

“I’m so lucky, and I was like, if I can have this time with my children — and I’ve still worked, I just didn’t act, because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away,” she said on “Today” earlier this year.

“It was almost a non-verbal agreement,” she added about the couple’s decision to let Mendes leave Hollywood.

“It was like, okay, he’s gonna work and I’m gonna work, I’m just gonna work here,” she explained.

Mendes added that “there’s only one Ryan, so I pretty much stopped acting after that.”
