Simone Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, praises her ‘flawless’ Olympics routine amid injury scare

Jonathan Owens summed up wife Simone Biles’ performance Sunday at the 2024 Olympics in one word: “flawless.”

Taking to his Instagram Stories as the United States women’s gymnastics team took the floor at Bercy Arena for the qualifying round of the Paris Games, the Chicago Bears safety lauded Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, who wowed on the balance beam and earned a score of 14.733.

Captioning the post, “flawless,” Owens, 29, continued to champion Biles, 27, while watching the routine on TV, as the seven-time Olympic medalist captured a score of 15.300 on vault and 14.600 on floor.

Although Biles’ performance helped Team USA secure its spot atop the leaderboard with a total score of 172.296, the four-time Olympic gold medalist appeared to injure her lower leg while warming up for her floor exercise.

Biles’ coach, Cecile Landi, said afterward the star gymnast had “felt a little something in her calf,” according to NBC Sports.

“I’m really proud of her and what she’s been through and what she’s showing the world what she’s capable of doing,” Landi said of Biles, who earned an all-around score of 59.556 on Sunday ahead of next week’s final.

Biles’ performance Sunday comes three years after she withdrew from events at the Tokyo Games due to the “twisties,” a sensation when a gymnast can lose a sense of where they are in mid-air which can result in a hazardous landing.

Owens, who wed Biles last spring, will be supporting her quest for gold in Paris, as the NFL pro has been granted time away from training camp by Bears brass.

“It was something me and my agent talked about when we went in and I signed with the team,” Owens said, per the Associated Press.

“The Olympics coming up and who my wife is, that was just something … it was all respectful. We went to them and just asked, ‘We would really appreciate it if he could go and support his wife,’ and they were really cool about it.”

Owens signed a two-year deal with the Bears in March after playing for the Packers in 2023.

The Bears open the season at home on Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Titans.
