Motorcyclist in Frampton injured in apparent hit-and-run

Police arrested a motorist who had a child under the age of five with him in the vehicle.

FRAMPTON — A driver in his 40s was arrested early Sunday by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) for allegedly failing to stop after having struck a motorcyclist.

The driver had a child under the age of five with him in the vehicle.

The incident took place Saturday at about 11 p.m. on Route 275 in the municipality of Frampton in Quebec’s Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Several police and fire departments undertook a search for the driver, who was located Sunday at about 5 a.m. on Route Cliche-Golden in Frampton, the SQ said. He had a child under the age of five with him who was taken to hospital for treatment of a minor injury.

The driver was met by police investigators on Sunday, said SQ spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, and he could face charges of hit-and-run causing injury and dangerous driving causing injury. He was released with a promise to appear.

Experts in collision investigation were sent to the scene on Sunday and an investigation is underway, she said.

The motorcyclist suffered only minor injuries.

“According to initial information, a man in his 30s suffered serious injuries after being found on the ground. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead,” said Marquis-Guy.
