Two vehicles swerved off the road while trying to avoid the objects falling from the van.
A motorist was in critical condition Monday morning after a moving van lost part of its load on Highway 30 on Sunday night.
The Sûreté du Québec said the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on eastbound Highway 30 in Brossard. The objects falling from the van forced two cars following the vehicle to try and weave around the objects, sending both vehicles off the road.
The driver of one of the cars was critically injured, provincial police said.
An investigation into the incident has been launched by the SQ and the section of highway where it occurred was temporarily closed to traffic on Sunday, forcing motorists to detour.
