A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a baby was found dead in a London home.
The grim discovery was made by officers responding to reports of a ‘concern for welfare’ in Taviton Street, Camden, shortly before 4pm on Monday.
Photos taken at the scene show a forensics tent erected outside a property on the street, where homes are valued at up to £3 million.
The street is a quiet road located 250 yards south of Euston Station, one of central London’s busiest train stations.
The property where the cordon has been erected is a block of flats that is owned by University of London, which told Metro.co.uk it rents out the flats to private tenants.
Taviton Street meanwhile largely consists of buildings used by University College London, including its School of Slavonic and European Studies, and Campbell House, a student halls.
The road is also where British resistance agent Noor Inayat Khan previously lived.
She was the first female radio operator to be flown into Nazi-occupied France and has been described as ‘Britain’s first Muslim war heroine in Europe’ by English Heritage.
Georgia, 27, a PhD student, told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’m extremely shocked. l did not know stuff like that happened around here. That’s absolutely horrible.
‘I think a while ago someone was shot nearby Euston station, but nothing like this.
‘It’s mostly students around here. A lot of families go to the park and there’s another park there as well.
‘I hope the mother of the baby is okay.’
Workers at a nearby student area said they had no idea about the baby’s death.

‘It’s horrible,’ they said.
Steve, 54, a building contractor who works around the area where the baby was discovered, added: ‘It’s terrible nowadays, isn’t it? It’s awful, but it doesn’t surprise me.’
Steve said he was working in the area for most of the day yesterday but didn’t see a commotion.
A UoL spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that the University of London owns properties on Taviton Street, including a block of flats which is rented out to private tenants.
‘We’re aware of a police investigation into reports of a tragic death in the street. The University has not been contacted by the police but will assist with any investigation as required.’
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: ‘Shortly after 2pm on Monday, July 8, police were called to Taviton Street, WC1, to reports of a concern for welfare.
‘Officers and London Ambulance Service attended the scene.
‘A baby was sadly found dead.
‘Enquiries continue into the circumstances.
‘A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody.’
