Amid the Taylor Swifthype, her flight habits have become a huge talking point, from her carbon footprint to her Tokyo Eras Tour time conundrum.

However, the Clara Bow singer has reportedly threatened legal action over one website in particular, which tracks her – and other celebs – exact flight times and locations.

Jack Sweeney runs several private jet trackers over social media, exposing the routes taken by the rich and famous, which already made him the focus of Elon Musk’s ire.

Lawyers for Taylor, 34, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Jack, who is a University of Central Florida student, in December after concerns over stalkers.

The Washington-based lawyers from Venable accused him of engaging in ‘stalking and harassing behaviour’ himself, according to the Post.

Taylor has had issues with people stalking her throughout her career, most recently a man attempted to break into her New York home several times and was arrested.

‘While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client,’ Katie Wright Morrone wrote in the letter.

She added that there was ‘no legitimate interest in or public need for this information, other than to stalk, harass, and exert dominion and control.’

Jack uses publicly available data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and broadcast signals from aircraft to work out carbon emissions and flight paths.

He has previously been widely praised and earned a spot on the Forbes 30 under 30 list for his work in highlighting celebrity climate impact.

SpaceX founder Elon is a common focus for the jet trackers, with a dedicated X page to his flights, and recently tweeted: ‘Sweeney is an awful human being. Taylor Swift is right to be concerned.’

In one interaction, the X owner reportedly offered Jack $50,000 to stop and also threatened to sue – but has not done so.

Since the cease-and-desist, the student has continued to publish the data and also shared a Freedom of Information request to see the purchase details of a new plane for the megastar.

When asked about the letter, Tree Paine, Taylor’s famed publicist, told the Guardian: ‘We cannot comment on any ongoing police investigation but can confirm the timing of stalkers suggests a connection. His posts tell you exactly when and where she would be.’

The legal threat comes after the All Too Well hitmaker has faced growing criticism – by fans and others – for her jet usage in a time of climate concerns.

In 2022, Taylor was identified by Yard as the biggest celebrity CO2 polluter that year with 170 flights, totalling around 15 days in the air and 8,293.54 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

After this, Tree clarified that Taylor’s private plane is often given to friends to borrow which added to her own flight usage.

The Grammy winner’s back and forth across the US to see Travis Kelce raised eyebrows last year and with her Eras Tour starting up again, fans are watching her less climate-friendly habits with eagle eyes.

Tree also stated that the Blank Space hitmaker had purchased more than double the carbon credits, used to fund climate projects, she needed to for offsetting her Eras Tour emissions.

Undeterred, Jack told the Post he believed this was all a scare tactic and likely linked to the CO2 conversations.

He reiterated that all the information is publicly available and does not give a complete picture of where the celebrity is at an exact moment, it is more similar to a tour schedule.
