High school volleyball: Sask. provincials wrap up on girls’ side

The rest of the boys’ 1A-4A provincial championships will take place this coming weekend.

Saskatchewan’s high school volleyball season is now 60 per cent done after provincial finals for the girls’ 1A through 5A divisions and the boys’ 5A division.

In girls’ action, Lampman defeated Rose Valley 2-1 to win the 1A title, Davidson defeated Rocanville 2-1 to become the 2A champions, Lanigan won in two straight sets over Oxbox to claim the 3A title, Nipawin defeated North Battleford John Paul 2-1 to hoist the 4A trophy and Prince Albert St. Mary are the 5A champions after defeating Swift Current 2-0.

Also in 5A action, the Saskatoon city champion Holy Cross Crusaders were defeated 2-0 in the quarterfinals by Regina Campbell, as were the St. Joseph Guardians, who fell 2-0 to Regina LeBoldus, while the Tommy Douglas Tigers didn’t advance to playoffs.

Over on the boys’ side, Prince Albert St. Mary’s claimed the 5A provincial title with a 2-1 victory against Swift Current, while Holy Cross lost 2-1 to Regina’s Winston Knoll in the quarterfinals and the Bethlehem Stars and Aden Bowman Bears didn’t advance out of the round robin.
