LSU basketball star Angel Reese has yet to directly address the drama swirling around her playing status after she was benched for the entire second half of the Lady Tigers’ 30-point win over Kent State on Nov. 14 and then did not attend last Friday’s road win over Southeastern Louisiana.
However, the All-American forward shared a sermon from Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders in a post on her Instagram Story on Sunday.
“Look at me,” Sanders said in the video, which took place during a press conference in Colorado in August. “What about me would make you think that I care about your opinion of me.
“Your opinion of me is not the opinion that I have of myself. You ain’t make me so you can’t break me. You didn’t build me so you can’t kill me.
“You know what, God established me, so there ain’t nothing you can do to me.
“I’ve been him. I’ve been a difference-maker, a game changer. I’ve been that guy. So what would change? Not a darn thing.
“I’m not even playing the game and you’ve got an opinion of me. I love it but I don’t care and I wish the world thought like that.
“Youngsters, if you’re out there right now, do not give a darn about what opinions people have of you. As long as that opinion is not consistent of that of yourself.
“You be you. I’m not paying to make you feel good about me. I already feel good about me. I’m good. Message for the youngsters out there and the old school.”
Sanders shared the message ahead of his first season as head coach in Colorado, where he’s been under a magnifying glass for his unapologetic ways.
Reese is currently in the midst of a drama-filled start to her senior year at LSU, as rumors continue to swirl that she’s suspended over bad grades.
“Please don’t believe everything you read,” Reese wrote on X Sunday.
It came a day after the 21-year-old posted photo of an LSU court with a cart filled with basketballs to her Instagram Story.
When asked about Reese’s benching in the second half against Kent State, LSU head coach Kim Mulkey said it was a coach’s decision and wouldn’t elaborate further.
Reese did not travel with the team for their game against SE Louisiana on Friday, a 73-50 win.
“You want me to explain why? It’s very obvious Angel was not in uniform,” Mulkey said in a postgame press conference.
“Angel is a part of this basketball team and we hope to see her sooner than later.”
OutKick reported Reese was benched for the purposes of an “attitude adjustment.”
Additionally, Reese’s mother, Angel Reese Webb, and LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson’s mother, Kia Brooks, reportedly went after each other on social media.
Brooks alleged that Reese has a “2.0 or less GPA” and told Webb to “take responsibility for you and your daughter’s actions,” according to Just Women’s Sports.
It’s unclear exactly what exactly started to the drama in the Bayou.
